All Workers Convergence (AWC), a civil society and labour advocacy group, has launched a scathing attack on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, accusing his administration of undermining democracy, suppressing dissent, and pushing Nigeria toward a one-party state.
In an open letter dated June 21, 2026, and signed by its National Coordinator, Comrade Andrew Emelieze, the group urged the President to “stop acting like an emperor.”
The strongly worded statement alleged that governance under Tinubu has become “hazardous” and “a serious threat to democracy,” claiming that dissenting voices are being silenced through arrests, detentions, and politically motivated legal actions.
According to the group, the President’s leadership style reflects “covert manipulations” designed to advance a hidden political agenda, while opposition parties are allegedly being weakened through engineered crises and suspicious defections.
“The summary of it all is that governance under your leadership has been hazardous and a serious threat to our democracy,” the letter stated. “You want to present yourself as a father figure, but your approach has not been in the best interest of the masses.”
The AWC further accused the administration of attempting to turn Nigeria into a one-party state, pointing to ongoing political tensions and alleged moves to deregister some political parties as evidence of authoritarian tendencies.
On security, the group painted a grim picture of the country’s condition, claiming Nigerians have been left at the mercy of terrorists and bandits. It argued that the worsening insecurity is enough reason for the President to resign voluntarily.
Despite the criticism, the group said the letter was intended as constructive feedback aimed at encouraging self-reflection and better leadership. It urged the President to reconsider his policies and remember that power is temporary.
