President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has signed the Appropriation (Amendment) (No. 4) Bill, 2025, into law, extending the implementation of the 2025 budget by three months to December 31, 2026.
The extension moves the budget’s implementation deadline from September 30, 2026, following the swift passage of the amendment by both chambers of the National Assembly on Tuesday, September 29.
According to a statement issued on Wednesday by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, the extension is intended to provide Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) additional time to complete ongoing capital projects.
The presidency said the move would also allow funds already appropriated in the 2025 budget to be fully utilised for projects and programmes without disrupting critical government initiatives.
President Tinubu commended the leadership and members of the National Assembly for their prompt consideration and passage of the amendment.
He described the development as another demonstration of cooperation between the Executive and Legislature in advancing the interests of Nigerians.
The President’s assent effectively gives MDAs until December 31, 2026, to implement the affected components of the 2025 Appropriation Act.
