Three suspects have been charged before the Ago-Iwoye Magistrate Court over alleged obstruction and assault of police officers performing their lawful duties in Ago-Iwoye, Ogun State.
The suspects are Alaba Mulika, 51; Alawode Iyanu, 21; and Temitope Saliu, 29.
According to the Ogun State Police Command, the incident occurred on September 29, 2026, when a police team led by ASP Akeredolu Emmanuel intercepted an unregistered Toyota Camry at Fibigbade Street, Ago-Iwoye.
The command said that while the vehicle was being taken to the police station, a Toyota Highlander with registration number JJJ 215 JV allegedly blocked its movement at Abobi Street.
A confrontation reportedly followed, during which INSPR Abolarinwa Wasiu and CPL Olubamiro Adeniyi were allegedly assaulted.
The police said video recordings of the incident, which later circulated on social media, formed part of the materials reviewed during the investigation.
Following a directive by the Commissioner of Police, CP Bode Ojajuni, detectives investigated the incident, visited the scene and arrested the three suspects.
They were charged on five counts bordering on conspiracy, obstruction of police officers, alleged serious assault on police officers and conduct likely to cause a breach of peace.
The court subsequently granted each of the three suspects bail in the sum of N500,000, with two sureties each.
The sureties are required to provide evidence of tax payment and proof of ownership of houses within the court’s jurisdiction, subject to verification by the court registrar.
The case was adjourned until October 12, 2026, for further proceedings.
The Ogun State Police Command reiterated that the safety and protection of officers performing lawful duties remain a priority, while urging members of the public to channel complaints through lawful mechanisms rather than resorting to physical confrontation with police personnel.
