The Ekwuoma Traditional Council in Ika North-East Local Government Area of Delta State has officially announced the passing of the 10th Ajeh of Ekwuoma Kingdom, His Royal Majesty Samuel Chinedu Chukwujindu, and the enthronement of his successor, Prince Daniel Afamefune Chukwujindu, now crowned as Ezeagu Ukpo II, the 11th Ajeh of Ekwuoma Kingdom.
In a statement issued by the Traditional Council and signed by Chief Godwin Nwokolo, the Onu Obi of Ekwuoma Kingdom, the revered monarch was said to have peacefully joined his ancestors on June 2, 2026, after an impactful reign spanning 18 years from 2008 to 2026.
The Council described the late monarch as a revered royal father whose reign brought stability, continuity, and honour to the kingdom.
Following the monarch’s transition, the Ekwuoma College of Kingmakers, acting in accordance with the customs, traditions, and succession laws of the kingdom, confirmed the enthronement of Crown Prince Daniel Afamefune Chukwujindu under the principle of primogeniture.
The newly enthroned monarch, Ezeagu Ukpo II, now assumes responsibility as custodian of the kingdom’s royal heritage and traditions, continuing an unbroken royal lineage dating back to 1646.
The Traditional Council expressed optimism that peace, unity, prosperity, and divine favour would continue to reign in Ekwuoma Kingdom during the transition period and beyond.
As part of mourning rites for the departed monarch, the Council declared a seven-day period of mourning beginning from Eke Market Day on Friday, June 5, 2026.
Residents and indigenes of the kingdom, both at home and in the diaspora, were urged to refrain from excessive celebrations, avoid acts capable of disturbing public peace, observe moderation in social activities, and offer prayers for the peaceful repose of the late king.
The Council also encouraged condolence visits to the Royal Family while assuring the public that details of the formal coronation and public presentation of the new monarch would be announced in due course.
“May Almighty God bless Ekwuoma Kingdom,” the statement concluded.
The announcement has been communicated to Governor of Delta State, Sheriff Oborevwori, the Deputy Governor of Delta State, Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Chairman, Ika North-East Local Government Council, Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command,
Divisional Police Officer (DPO), Igbodo Division and relevant traditional authorities.
