A member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and aspirant for Abeokuta South State Constituency 1 in the 2027 general elections, Hon. Akintunde Sorunke, has declared his full support for the governorship ambition of Chief Oladipupo Adebutu, describing him as a man of proven integrity, competence and unquestionable Ogun State heritage.
Sorunke made this known while reacting to Adebutu’s declaration to contest for the office of Governor of Ogun State under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party ahead of the 2027 elections.
The PDP aspirant emphasised that, as a thoroughbred Egba man, he would wholeheartedly support an Ogun indigene with no blemish and with a credible background rather than back any “foreigner” whose identity and allegiance may be questionable.
He noted that Adebutu’s roots in Ogun State, particularly from the Ijebu axis, coupled with his track record, make him a unifying figure capable of leading the state to greater heights.
“I am delighted that one of our own, a true son of the soil, has stepped forward. When you consider truth, honesty and integrity alone, these are qualities that stand Adebutu out at a time when some individuals parade questionable academic records, unclear identities and false narratives about their origins,” Sorunke stated.
He further stressed that credibility in little matters often reflects capacity for leadership, warning that individuals who fail the test of truthfulness cannot be trusted with the responsibilities of governance.
According to him, “leadership imposed on the people through questionable means or external influence rarely delivers meaningful development. Chief Ladi Adebutu is the Lisa Aje of Egba and he is from Ogun State.”
Speaking on his own background, Sorunke highlighted his rich family lineage, noting that his roots in Egbaland are deeply established and respected. He said his family name is synonymous with honour, community service and a long-standing commitment to the development of Egba land and Ogun State at large.
“Our heritage is our pride. I come from a lineage that understands the value of integrity, service and responsibility to the people. These are the same values I see in Chief Adebutu,” he added.
Sorunke also used the opportunity to reaffirm his confidence in the PDP, describing it as a party built on strong democratic ideals and people-oriented policies.
He maintained that the PDP remains the most viable platform capable of rescuing Nigerians from the current economic hardship, poverty and insecurity.
“The PDP has the ideology, the structure and the experience to reposition our state and the nation. It is the only party truly committed to the welfare of the people and capable of restoring hope,” he said.
Reiterating his commitment to his constituency, Sorunke assured the people of Abeokuta South State Constituency 1 of his readiness to provide quality legislative representation anchored on transparency, inclusiveness and grassroots development if elected in 2027.
He concluded by urging party members and the general public to rally behind credible leaders who possess integrity and a genuine passion for service, noting that the future of Ogun State depends on the collective choices of its people.
