The Ogun State Independent Electoral Commission (OGSIEC) says a bye-election to fill the vacant councillorship position in Iperu III Ward 5, Ikenne Local Government Area of the State will hold on Saturday, June 6, 2026.
Chairman of the Commission, Mr. Babatunde Osibodu, revealed this at the Palace Hall of the Ebi of Idena Land, Iperu Remo, during a meeting with relevant stakeholders and residents of the area.
Osibodu, while welcoming participants, emphasized the importance of the engagement which he noted was part of efforts to ensure a smooth and credible electoral process.
According to him, the bye-election became necessary following the death of the incumbent Councillor, Hon. Nurudeen Bakare. He described the period as one requiring reflection on the late Councillor’s service and contributions to the community.
The Chairman said the electoral process presents an opportunity for stakeholders to collectively choose a worthy successor who will represent the interests of the people with integrity and dedication.
In his remarks, the Olumogun Adimula of Idena Remo, Oba Luqman Adebambo Salami, expressed satisfaction with the conduct of the meeting, commending the OGSIEC for organizing the stakeholders’ forum which he noted would foster inclusiveness and trust in the electoral process.
The Monarch noted that the era of imposing candidates on communities without due process is fading, describing the current approach as a true reflection of democratic principles, while the engagements strengthen public trust in the electoral system.
Also speaking, Chairman of Ikenne Local Government, Hon. Jamiu Ashimi, lauded the Commission’s efforts, particularly during the ward’s mourning period, acknowledging that the death of the Councillor created a significant vacuum in leadership.
Hon. Ashimi noted that holding the meeting at such a critical time was “both timely and reassuring, as it restores a sense of purpose among residents,” pledging the local government’s support towards the successful conduct of the bye-election.
Highlights of the meeting included the presentation of the election timetable and guidelines by the Resident Electoral Officer, as well as an interactive question-and-answer session with stakeholders.
The engagement formed a major part of the electoral process for the forthcoming bye-election in Iperu III Ward 5, drawing key community leaders, royal fathers, political parties, and residents of the Ward.
