The internal crisis rocking the Ogun State chapter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) deepened on Sunday with the suspension of its state chairman, Otunba Femi Soluade, over alleged disruption of a governorship declaration rally.
The party which first passed a vote of ‘No Confidence’ in the state chairman same Sunday, February 15 before suspending him, alleged that the embattled Soluade, accompanied by armed thugs, stormed the ADC gathering in Abeokuta, the state capital on Saturday and disrupted the public declaration of the governorship aspiration of Prince Jimi Lawal.
This comes less than 24 hours after Soluade himself had on Saturday announced the suspension Jimi Lawal, citing alleged anti – party activities and attempt to hijack the party structures as reasons for the decision.
However, in a twist on Sunday, the ADC through a statement by its Publicity Secretary, Hon. Olumide Onabajo, condemned the alleged disruptive conduct of the suspended chairman, saying it threw the gathering into a serious chaos.
While announcing that the State Executive Committee has appointed the Deputy State Chairman, Prince Adedeji Babatunde Abiodun, to function as the Acting State Chairman, it emphasized that a Disciplinary Committee has also been constituted to thoroughly investigate all the allegations against Otunba Soluade.
The statement, noted that the Committee has been given 14 days ultimatum to look into the matter, submit its findings and recommendations.
“The State Executive Committee (SEC) of our great party, at its duly convened meeting held today, Sunday, 15th February, 2026, at the Party State Secretariat, deliberated extensively on the numerous allegations levelled against the State Chairman, Otunba Dr. Femi Soluade
“After exhaustive deliberations and careful consideration of the gravity of the issues presented, the State Executive Committee unanimously passed a Vote of No Confidence in Otunba Dr. Femi Soluade.
“The Vote of No Confidence was duly signed by all Local Government Chairmen present and all members of the State Executive Committee, reflecting the collective and unanimous position of the party leadership at both the state and local government levels.
“The Committee particularly condemns in strong terms the ugly incident of Saturday, 14th February, 2026, where a peaceful gathering was ongoing for the public declaration of the governorship aspiration of H.E. Jimi Lawal. The State Chairman arrived at the venue accompanied by armed thugs disrupted the event and caused serious chaos,” the statement reads in part.
