As a total of 2,339,233 registered and eligible voters are preparing to participate in the August 15, 2026, Osun State governorship election, Accord Party National Assembly candidates in Ogun State have condemned the reported violence and political thuggery in Osun State, while declaring their support for the re-election bid of Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Jackson Nurudeen Adeleke.
The candidates made their position known in a communiqué issued after a meeting with the Accord Party Chairman in Ogun State, Hon. Oke Rotimi Michael, on Wednesday, August 12, 2026.
The candidates expressed solidarity with the people of Osun State and called on voters to remain peaceful and resolute in protecting their democratic rights.
They also warned political actors against attempting to replicate what they described as violence and political brigandage in Osun State in Ogun, insisting that the state would not be intimidated or bullied.
The candidates further urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the police, Department of State Services (DSS), Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) and other security agencies to remain impartial and professional before, during and after elections.
According to the communiqué, security agencies should proactively protect voters and candidates, while investigating and prosecuting the sponsors and perpetrators of political violence “without fear or favour.”
The group equally called on the people of Osun State to vote for Governor Adeleke’s second-term bid, reaffirming their backing for his re-election.
Turning to Ogun State, the candidates announced that Accord’s governorship candidate, Agbongboakala Olaniyi Okewole, would soon begin extensive engagements across the state.
They said his campaign would be anchored on the pillars of People, Progress, Prosperity and Protection.
The candidates reaffirmed Accord’s commitment to peaceful, credible, transparent and violence-free elections, urging all political actors to respect the rule of law.
The communiqué was signed by Hon. Salaudeen Fatai on behalf of the Accord Ogun State National Assembly candidates.
Those present at the meeting included Hon. Ajetunmobi Lateef Abiola, Ogun Central Senatorial candidate; Hon. Qudus Oluwaseun, Ogun East Senatorial candidate; Hon. Salaudeen Fatai, Ogun West Senatorial candidate; Hon. Abidogun Damilare Moses, Remo Federal Constituency candidate; Hon. Afolabi Oladiran Jonathan, Ado-Odo/Ota Federal Constituency candidate; and Hon. Dasaolu Babatunde, Abeokuta South Federal Constituency candidate.
The candidates concluded their communiqué with a declaration: “The people’s choice must prevail.”
