The Igbo ethnic group in Ogun State, under the aegis of the Ohamadike Political Movement (OPM) an Igbo political organisation in the state, has declared its unalloyed support for Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, for governor, Hon. Jimoh Olusola Ojugbele for Ogun West Senatorial District, and other All Progressives Congress (APC) candidates ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The group made its position known on Wednesday during a massive APC solidarity rally in Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Area, where thousands of party supporters, residents, political groups and members of various associations thronged major roads in a show of support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s 2027 re-election bid and other APC candidates.
The rally, tagged “Ado/Odo/Ota Local Government One Million-Man Walk/Rally in Support of PBAT, YAYI and All APC Candidates,” was organised to mobilise support for Tinubu, Yayi, Ojugbele and other APC candidates ahead of the elections.
Speaking on behalf of the group, Prince Uche Azuoge, the Organising Secretary of the Ohamadike Progressive Movement (OPM), said the group members attended the rally to demonstrate their “unalloyed support” for Yayi, Ojugbele, House of Representatives candidate Olanrewaju Bashorun and Ado-Odo/Ota State Constituency candidate Okikiola Oludengun.
Azuoge said the group’s support for Yayi was based on what he described as his record of representation and interventions in Ogun West since becoming a senator.
“We are here for the rally and to show our support for YAYI because of what he has done since becoming a Senator for Ogun West.
“He remembers Ogun West in general and Ado-Odo/Ota in particular. Every street you will see his hand. We must support Yayi; he is the incoming governor of Ogun State.
“Ogun State is our second home. We must support YAYI and support the state to elect him and other APC candidates,” he said.
The programme was scheduled to commence at 10:00 a.m., but roads around Ota and adjoining areas had begun filling up as early as 9:00 a.m. yesterday as party members, supporters, defectors from opposition parties, interest groups and various associations joined the procession.
The Chairman of the organising committee, Hon. Yomi Olojeloju, described the mobilisation as more than a political walk, saying it was a demonstration of unity, solidarity and support for the APC ahead of the 2027 elections.
The enthusiastic crowd sang and danced in support of Tinubu, Yayi, Ojugbele and other APC candidates, while drummers, flutists and trumpeters supplied energetic traditional and contemporary rhythms along the procession.
“We stand together for Renewed Hope, good governance, and a greater Nigeria and Ogun State,” participants declared in unison.
Addressing the gathering at Gagan, the convergence point, Ojugbele called for the re-election of President Tinubu, saying his administration should be given another term to consolidate what he described as the gains of its reforms and projects.
He also declared that opposition parties had lost their influence in Ado-Odo/Ota and Ogun West, insisting that the area, which he described as possessing significant voting strength, would deliver substantial votes to Tinubu and other APC candidates in 2027.
The rally is part of the growing political mobilisation ahead of the 2027 general elections, with political parties and groups across Ogun State increasingly engaging grassroots communities and mobilising support ahead of the polls.
