A National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member, Okebaram Stanley Chimaroke, who was declared missing in Bayelsa State, has been found dead under circumstances that remain unclear.
Chimaroke, a Civil Engineering graduate and former Students’ Union Government (SUG) president of the Federal Polytechnic Nekede, was serving in Nembe Local Government Area of Bayelsa State at the time of the incident.
According to information circulating among colleagues and associates, his lifeless body was allegedly recovered from a body of water in Nembe after he was reportedly attacked by yet-to-be-identified assailants.
Before the discovery, the Bayelsa State Police Command had launched a search operation following reports of his disappearance.
Police sources told security analyst Zagazola Makama that the missing person report was lodged at about 8:40 p.m. on July 25, 2026, by fellow corps member Aribisola Bisi Isaac, who was accompanied by Adeola Marvelous.
The report indicated that the Local Government Inspector informed them that the 27-year-old corps member, posted to serve in Nembe Creek, was last seen at about 8:00 p.m. on July 24.
According to the sources, repeated efforts to contact him through his mobile phone numbers proved unsuccessful, raising concerns over his whereabouts.
Following the report, police operatives were deployed to the creek community, located about 45 minutes by boat from the Nembe Divisional Headquarters, to commence a search and investigation.
At the time the search was launched, the police said efforts were ongoing to locate the missing corps member and unravel the circumstances surrounding his disappearance.
However, while reports now indicate that Chimaroke’s body has been recovered, the Bayelsa State Police Command had yet to officially confirm the development or disclose the exact circumstances surrounding his death as of the time of filing this report.
The incident has sparked grief among colleagues, friends and former classmates, who have continued to mourn the late corps member while calling for a thorough investigation into the circumstances leading to his death.
