A man identified as Alhaji Akeem Arikeuyo was on Monday arraigned before the Magistrate Court in Ago-Iwoye, Ogun State, over an alleged assault on the state Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Hon. Adesanya Olufemi Nuberu.
Arikeuyo is facing a two-count charge in Charge No. MAG/74C arising from an incident reportedly involving him and Nuberu on Friday at Ward 09, Ago-Iwoye, during a special meeting of the party.
According to the account surrounding the incident, Arikeuyo allegedly assaulted Nuberu after the APC publicity secretary cautioned him over what was described as conduct contrary to directives of the party.
Following the incident, Arikeuyo was reportedly detained overnight before being brought before the court on Monday.
However, during the court proceedings, Nuberu told the court that he was willing to withdraw the case, citing the interest of the party and the intervention of the APC leadership in resolving the disagreement.
The decision followed efforts by party leaders and other prominent individuals to mediate between the parties and prevent the dispute from escalating.
Nuberu also commended the Commissioner of Police in Ogun State and the judiciary for their roles in upholding the rule of law.
He expressed appreciation to the APC leadership and other eminent personalities who intervened in the matter, saying their efforts were aimed at resolving the disagreement and preserving the unity of the party.
The development has sparked discussion within the party over the importance of discipline, adherence to party directives and the need for members to resolve internal disagreements through peaceful and lawful channels.
Nuberu’s move to seek the withdrawal of the case was seen within the party as an attempt to place the collective interest and unity of the APC above the dispute, while respecting the intervention of its leadership.
