Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, on Sunday, paid a visit to former President Olusegun Obasanjo at his Abeokuta residence in Ogun State, in a meeting that has fueled speculation over political alignments ahead of the 2027 general election.
Makinde was accompanied by former Ekiti State Governor, Kayode Fayemi, and former Osun State Governor, Olagunsoye Oyinlola.
In a post on his official Facebook page, the Oyo governor disclosed that the meeting focused on key national issues as political activities gradually intensify ahead of the 2027 polls.
“Earlier today, we visited Baba, His Excellency Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, GCFR, in Abeokuta. Our discussions centred on important national issues in view of the upcoming general election. We appreciate Baba for his wise counsel at this crucial time in our nation’s history,” Makinde wrote.
The meeting comes months after Makinde, who is serving his second and final term as Oyo State governor, formally declared his intention to contest the 2027 presidential election.
While Oyinlola remains a prominent figure in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Fayemi is a leading member of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), making their joint visit to Obasanjo particularly noteworthy amid ongoing political permutations.
Former President Obasanjo, regarded as one of Nigeria’s influential political figures, has yet to publicly endorse any presidential hopeful for the 2027 election.
