The governorship candidate of Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), Cyrus Oluwaseun Akinfenwa, on Wednesday distanced himself from the reported endorsement of governor Dapo Abiodun for another term of four years.
Akinfenwa said the Tuesday meeting in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, where the purported endorsement took place, was meant to be for the state chapter of Inter Party Advisory Council (IPAC) which has Mr. Samson Okunsanya as the State Chairman.
He explained that Okunsanya who doubles as the State Chairman of PRP, did not mention PRP or its governorship candidate as being part of the said endorsement of Dapo Abiodun for re-election on March 11.
He stated this in a release made available to The Daily Crucible, to debunk the trending news on the social media and other news outlets that he was part of it.
“I was in a meeting with my party Chairman in person of Engr. Samson Okusanya when he was called for IPAC meeting with the Secretary to the State Government of Ogun State (Mr. Tokunbo Talabi) and told me to join him as an Observer at the meeting. Unexpectedly to me, the issue of endorsement issue came up.
“However, in the State IPAC Chairman statement, there is no where he mentioned PRP or it’s Governorship Candidate being part of the said Endorsement.
“My presence at the meeting was a mistake and I accept my fault.
This is to re – assure our Party Faithfuls and the General Public that I have not in any form endorsed Prince Dapo Abiodun for a Second Term in office,” he stated.
