Determined to bridge the education gap and continue its mission of getting every child in school, the IA-Foundation team has visited the Makoko community in Lagos State and engaged directly with families and children to identify those who are currently out of school.
Makoko, known for its densely populated and underserved population, remains a focal point in the Foundation’s outreach efforts and the visit aimed to select a few out-of-school children.
The IA-Foundation team which visited the community on June 19, 2025, moved through its neighbourhood, interacting with both adults and children to assess the educational status of young residents. Children who disclosed they were not currently enrolled in school were asked to introduce the team to their parents or guardians for further discussion.
The team gathered vital information about the children’s backgrounds, including their age, the last class attended, and reasons for dropping out of school. Many of the stories shared were deeply emotional and highlighted the critical need for continued intervention.
From the pool of children identified, those who met the bursary programme’s selection criteria were documented for further evaluation and possible enrollment for the next academic session.The visit underscores IA-Foundation’s unwavering commitment to its vision: a Nigeria where no child is left behind because of poverty or circumstance.
The Foundation will continue to follow up with the selected families, working closely with community leaders to ensure that these children can begin or resume their education come the 2025/2026 school year.
