Former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Abdullahi Ganduje, on Monday formally welcomed the Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf to the party, saying he has finally come back home.
Ganduje made the remarks shortly after Governor Yusuf rejoined the APC from the New Nigeria Peoples Party(NNPP) at a colourful ceremony held at the Government House, Kano.
The ex – national chairman commended governor Yusuf for being bold enough to defect to the ruling party and for putting Kano first above all else, recalling that they were together in the APC before he left for the NNPP.
He said, “To us, the leaders of the APC, this is a memorable occasion we have all been waiting for. I strongly welcome Gov. Abba Kabir Yusuf back to his home.
“We were in APC together with you; it was formed with you. But later, because of political differences and redirection, you left for the NNPP.
“Now, we are thankful to our Creator; you are back to our party and your home. As the leader of APC in Kano today, you embody the party’s policies.”
Speaking at the reception ceremony, the governor Yusuf said his return to the APC was hinged on the need to align more closely with the Federal Government under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
He declared that his decision was taken collectively with key political stakeholders in the state.
“Leadership must rise above comfort, sentiment and personal selfishness. That is why, after wide consultations and careful reflection on the future of Kano State and present realities, I have relinquished my membership of the NNPP and joined the party that I believe is better for Kano.
“I, Abba Kabir Yusuf, the Governor of Kano State, alongside my cabinet, 22 out of 24 members of the State House of Assembly and all 44 local government chairmen, have agreed to align ourselves with the ruling party, the APC.
“Kano is blessed with enormous potential. We must put an end to confrontational politics. Governance is not a personal contest but a responsibility entrusted to leaders, and we must move forward with that understanding,” he said.
