National Executive Committee(NEC) of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has named former Kano Governor, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje the new National Chairman of the party.
This followed his election into the office during the National Executive Council (NEC) meeting of the party on Thursday.
The meeting also elected Senator Ajibola Basiru as the National Secretary.
Former National Chairman of the party, Abdullahi Adamu, and the National Secretary, Iyiola Omisore, last month, resigned from the NWC.
The Acting National Chairman, Senator Abubakar Kiyari, announced the NEC decision to reporters shortly after the executive session of the committee
He also said that in line with Article 13(2), NEC transferred its powers to NWC to fill other vacant positions in the administrative organ of the party.
Afterwards, Barrister Mustapha Abubakar administered the oath of allegiance on the two leaders.
Speaking after his ratification by the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party, Ganduje promised to reform and ensure strict internal democracy within the ruling party.
Mr Ganduje also promised to embark on reforms within the party to align with the “current political landscape.”
“Our main focus will be promoting party unity and defending and increasing the number of executive and legislative seats we currently hold. Under my watch, internal democracy will be strictly adhered to with a deliberate policy to engage in wider consultations and make the party functional throughout the year.
“More reforms will be carried out in the party in alignment with the current political landscape,” he said
