The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has urged its Special Marshals in the South-West to deepen strategic partnerships, embrace technology and strengthen data collection as part of efforts to reduce road crashes and improve road safety.
The call was made at the RS2 Special Marshals Zonal Conference held on Thursday at the Muhammadu Buhari International Conference Centre and Tele-Medical Hall, Federal Medical Centre, Idi-Aba, Abeokuta, Ogun State.
The conference, themed “Repositioning Special Marshals for Greater Impact through Strategic Partnerships and Data-Driven Road Safety Initiatives,” brought together Special Marshals, FRSC officers, government representatives, sister agencies and other road safety stakeholders.
Representing the Corps Marshal, FRSC, Shehu Mohammed, mni, the Zonal Commander, RS2 Lagos, ACM Matthew O. Olonisaye, commended the Special Marshals for their continued commitment to volunteerism and road safety.
Olonisaye urged the volunteers to build stronger partnerships with government agencies, private organisations, transport operators, communities, educational institutions, faith-based organisations and development partners.
According to him, such collaboration would strengthen road safety education, traffic management, emergency response and post-crash care.
He also called for greater use of technology and improved data gathering to support evidence-based interventions and make road safety initiatives more effective.

RS2.2 Ogun Sector Command, Afolabi Odunsi on Thursday night on the conference also highlighted the need for discipline, professionalism, continuous capacity building, effective communication and sound data management within the Special Marshals Scheme.
The National Coordinator, Special Marshals, Dr. Adaji Usman, represented by former National Coordinator, Dr. Sini Kinbi, said these areas were critical to enhancing the impact and professionalism of Special Marshals.
The Sector Commander, RS2.1 Lagos, CC G.K. Hamzat, attended the conference, while the Sector Commander, RS2.2 Ogun, CC Oludare Ogunjobi, was represented by DCC G. Adeniji.
The Ogun State Governor, Prince Dr. Dapo Abiodun, was represented by the Commissioner for Transportation, Engr. Dairo F. NSE.
The event featured goodwill messages from sister agencies, technical sessions, an awards presentation and a group photograph.
The technical session was delivered by Commander Frederick Ayodele Sangofadeji (Rtd.) and moderated by SM Olusegun Akintan, Zonal Coordinator, RS2 Lagos.
Participants reaffirmed their commitment to supporting the FRSC’s road safety mandate, particularly in reducing road traffic crashes, improving road safety and saving lives.
They also pledged to advance a more professional, technology-driven and impactful Special Marshals Scheme through stronger partnerships and better use of road safety data.
