A 33-year-old man, Monsuru Musa, has been arrested for allegedly sitting a promotion examination on behalf of his father, an employee of the FCT Fire Service.
Monsuru was reportedly arrested on Wednesday, the third day of the promotion examination organised by the FCT Civil Service Commission.
The examination was being conducted at the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) premises when security personnel deployed for the exercise allegedly caught him attempting to take the test for his father, Musa Mohammed.
During questioning, Monsuru reportedly told officials that his father was sick and unable to sit for the examination.
He allegedly said his father had instructed him to take the examination on his behalf.
The incident reportedly took another turn when Monsuru gave conflicting information about his father’s age, stating that he was between 67 and 68 years old.
His father, however, reportedly told security officials that he would turn 60 in February 2027.
Musa Mohammed also reportedly said he completed his primary education in 1977 and secondary education in 1982.
Following the incident, the father and son were handed over to the police for further investigation after making statements to operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS).
The authorities are expected to investigate the circumstances surrounding the alleged impersonation and determine whether any further offences were committed.
