The Ogun State Police Command has rescued ten passengers abducted by suspected kidnappers in Awa-Ijebu, Ogun State, following days of sustained security operations that culminated in a midnight raid on the gang’s hideout, where one suspect was neutralised.
The victims, who were kidnapped from a commercial bus at Orita Fufu, Awa-Ijebu, on November 3, 2026, regained their freedom at about 8:30 p.m. on Saturday, November 7, after what the police described as sustained security pressure and intelligence-led efforts. All ten passengers were reportedly released unharmed.
In a statement issued on Sunday, November 8, by the Police Public Relations Officer, Ogun State Command, DSP Oluseyi B. Babaseyi, the Command disclosed that operatives of its Anti-Kidnapping Unit launched a follow-up operation at about 1:00 a.m. on Sunday, storming a suspected kidnappers’ hideout along the Ibadan-Ijebu Ode Road.
The operation reportedly triggered a gun battle between the police operatives and the suspected criminals. One suspected kidnapper was neutralised during the exchange, while other members of the gang reportedly escaped with suspected gunshot wounds.
Items recovered from the hideout include an AK-47 rifle, 20 rounds of ammunition, cash amounting to ₦1,376,800 and a mobile phone.
The police said efforts had been intensified to track down and arrest the fleeing suspects, warning that those who escaped with gunshot injuries could seek medical attention at health facilities.
The Command consequently urged members of the public to report anyone with suspicious gunshot wounds to the nearest police station or through established police communication channels.
