President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva on his re-election for a record fourth term.
In a statement issued by the State House on Monday, October 26, 2026, and personally signed by President Tinubu, he described Lula as his friend, saying the renewed mandate offers an opportunity to strengthen the longstanding friendship between Nigeria and Brazil, which dates back to 1961.
The President said Nigeria and Brazil, as two leading nations of the Global South, can work together to promote economic integration and advance shared interests in a rapidly changing global order.
“I congratulate my friend, President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva of Brazil, on his re-election for a record fourth term,” Tinubu said.
“Your renewed mandate offers an opportunity to strengthen the longstanding friendship between Nigeria and Brazil, dating back to 1961.”
President Tinubu said he looks forward to expanding cooperation between both countries in key sectors including trade and investment, agriculture and food security, energy, oil and gas, manufacturing, science and technology, education, aviation and cultural exchange.
He reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to working with Brazil to strengthen multilateral cooperation and advance shared priorities in Africa, South America and across the Global South.
“On behalf of the people of Nigeria, I wish you a successful new term in office,” the President added.
