MAIDUGURI — Troops of Operation HADIN KAI have arrested a suspected Sudanese foreign terrorist fighter and an alleged illegal immigrant from Ghana during an intelligence-led security operation in Askira/Uba Local Government Area of Borno State.
The operation was conducted by troops of the 115 Task Force Battalion, Sector 4 of Operation HADIN KAI, at about 11:48 a.m. on Saturday, July 19, in the Lassa, Dille General Area as part of sustained counter-terrorism operations across the North East.
According to the military, the troops apprehended Musa Fashir, a 32-year-old Sudanese national, who is suspected to be a foreign terrorist fighter and collaborator. Preliminary intelligence reportedly indicates that the suspect has established links with terrorist elements operating in the region, raising concerns over attempts by foreign actors to bolster insurgent activities in the North East.
The troops also arrested Mary Florence, 36, who claimed to be an illegal immigrant from the Republic of Ghana.
Military authorities said the circumstances surrounding her presence in the area, as well as the authenticity of her claims, are currently being investigated.
Both suspects are being held in military custody, where they are undergoing profiling and interrogation to establish their identities, determine the extent of their activities, and ascertain any possible links to terrorist groups or transnational criminal networks.
Operation HADIN KAI said the arrests underscore the effectiveness of its intelligence-driven operations and the vigilance of troops in denying terrorists and their collaborators freedom of movement.
The military noted that the operation reflects its commitment to disrupting terrorist support structures, preventing the infiltration of foreign fighters, and enhancing security across the North East.
Reaffirming its resolve to sustain the offensive against insurgents, Operation HADIN KAI said it remains focused on neutralising terrorists and dismantling their logistics, financing and support networks.
The military also appealed to members of the public to continue providing timely and credible information to security agencies, stressing that community cooperation remains vital to restoring lasting peace, security and stability in the North East.
