Yoruba Nation agitator, Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, has threatened to expose politicians allegedly sponsoring kidnappings and banditry in Oyo State following the abduction of students in Oriire Local Government Area.
Igboho made the remarks on Wednesday while addressing newly elected executives of the National Association of Nigerian Students led by Akinteye Bàbàtunde at his residence in the Soka area of Ibadan.
In a viral video circulated online, the activist claimed he was ready to storm the forests and flush out the kidnappers but was allegedly stopped by the Oyo State Government.
According to him, certain politicians are supplying bandits with weapons and financial support to destabilise the country and frustrate President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
“I know the politicians behind them. If they do not stop these evil acts, I will mention their names publicly,” Igboho declared.
He argued that criminal groups operating in the South-West could be defeated if local security outfits were allowed to confront them directly.
Igboho also dismissed claims that he demanded money from Governor Seyi Makinde’s administration to assist in rescuing the abducted victims.
He revealed that after securing federal approval for his proposed security outfit, “Iru Ekun Security Network,” the state government allegedly warned him against launching any independent rescue operation, citing fears that the kidnappers might kill the hostages.
The activist further linked the growing insecurity to what he described as a political agenda aimed at sabotaging Tinubu’s presidency, comparing the situation to the security challenges faced during former President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration.
The controversy follows the reported abduction of over 45 pupils and teachers during attacks on three schools in Oriire Local Government Area on May 15.
The affected schools included Baptist Nursery and Primary School, Yawota; Community Grammar School, Esiele; and L.A. Primary School.
Security tensions escalated further after one of the abducted teachers, Michael Oyedokun, was reportedly killed by the kidnappers in a disturbing video that surfaced online days after the attack.
The federal and state governments are said to have intensified security operations around forest corridors linked to the attackers as concern continues to mount across Oyo State.
