Justice Dapo Adeniji of the Osun State High Court sitting in Ile-Ife has sentenced Taiwo Agboola to death by hanging for the murder of 62-year-old Olubayo Jadesola in Ifetedo, Osun State.
The court found Agboola guilty of attempted rape, indecent assault and murder after the prosecution presented exhibits and called four witnesses during the trial.
Agboola, who was arraigned on November 7, 2024, pleaded not guilty to the charges, alleging that his statements to the police were obtained under duress.
According to the prosecution, the incident occurred on October 11, 2023, at a palm oil processing site in Olokemeji village, Ifetedo, where the deceased had gone with her granddaughter for work.
The court heard that the convict attacked the victim before she was later found dead at the scene. Agboola was subsequently apprehended near the area and handed over to the police.
Justice Adeniji sentenced him to 14 years imprisonment for attempted rape, two years for indecent assault and death by hanging for murder.
