Governor Francis Nwifuru-led Ebonyi State Government has indefinitely suspended two head teachers following the circulation of a viral video exposing the poor condition of a classroom in the state.
The video, which triggered widespread outrage on social media, showed pupils receiving lessons in a dilapidated classroom with unfinished block walls, inadequate facilities and deteriorating infrastructure.
The suspended teachers were also accused of allegedly recording and circulating the footage.
In separate suspension letters dated May 18, 2026, and signed by the Education Secretary of Ezza North Local Government Area, Francis Nwonunku, the affected head teachers were directed to immediately hand over all government property in their possession to the next senior officer.
The letters accused the teachers of gross misconduct and blamed them for allegedly denying pupils access to quality education while “sabotaging” the efforts of Governor Francis Nwifuru in the education sector.
“You are hereby suspended indefinitely as the head teacher of the above school due to your gross misconduct for denying the school pupils their right to quality education and also sabotaging the effort of our education-loving governor of Ebonyi State, Francis Nwifuru,” the letter stated.
The government further ordered the teachers to submit copies of their handover notes to the office of the Education Secretary without delay.
