The Peoples Democratic Party in Ogun State has officially declared Chief Toyin Amuzu as its flag bearer for the House of Representatives election in Abeokuta South Federal Constituency ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The development comes as Amuzu’s supporters vowed to work tirelessly to help him claim the constituency seat from the incumbent lawmaker, Hon. Afolabi Afuape of the All Progressives Congress, who has already secured his party’s return ticket.
Supporters of the PDP candidate expressed confidence in Amuzu’s ability to provide quality representation if elected in 2027, citing his record of grassroots empowerment programmes and what they described as the growing desire among residents of Abeokuta South Federal Constituency to vote out the incumbent over alleged lacklustre performance since the inauguration of the 10th National Assembly.
The declaration followed the Ogun PDP primary election held on Sunday at the party’s Oke-Mosan State Secretariat, where Chief Amuzu emerged unopposed with overwhelming support from party leaders and members.
During the exercise, Mallam Bola Taiwo from Constituency 1 moved a motion affirming that Chief Toyin Amuzu was widely accepted and duly ratified as the PDP candidate for the 2027 House of Representatives election. The motion was seconded by Alhaji Isa Orunsolu from Constituency 2.
Accreditation of delegates from Wards 1 to 15 in Abeokuta South Local Government was conducted by Mr. Adebayo Lateef from Ewekoro Local Government and Mr. Lateef Olowu from Ifo Local Government.
The electoral process was supervised by Prince Akeem Ade-Balogun of the Independent National Electoral Commission, who served as the Electoral Officer for the exercise in which Chief Amuzu was unanimously adopted and endorsed as the PDP candidate.
Security personnel from the Nigeria Police Force, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps and the Department of State Services were also present to ensure a peaceful and transparent process.
Speaking shortly after his emergence, Chief Amuzu thanked party leaders, members and supporters for the confidence reposed in him, pledging to deliver purposeful and people-oriented representation if elected.
The PDP candidate promised to distinguish himself through quality legislation and impactful constituency projects capable of transforming communities across Abeokuta South Federal Constituency.
According to him, his representation would be driven by inclusiveness, accountability and direct engagement with residents at the grassroots.
“I will ensure full inclusion of citizens by facilitating legacy projects at the grassroots. Communities will determine their developmental needs and priorities, while I facilitate both government-backed and personal intervention projects,” he said.
Chief Amuzu further assured constituents of effective lawmaking and people-centred projects with direct impact on the masses.
Party faithful and supporters who witnessed the declaration described his emergence as a major boost to the PDP’s chances in Abeokuta South Federal Constituency ahead of the 2027 general elections.
