The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Ogun State Sector Command, has called for stronger collaboration among stakeholders and accelerated implementation of the African Road Safety Charter as part of efforts to reduce road crashes across Nigeria.
According to a statement by Superintendent Route Commander Odunsi Afolabi, Public Relations Officer of the FRSC Ogun Sector Command,
the call was made on Friday during the commemoration of the 2026 West African Road Safety Organization (WARSO) Day held at the FRSC Sector Command Headquarters in Abeokuta.
The event, themed “From Ratification to Action: Implementing the African Road Safety Charter,” focused on translating policy commitments into measurable road safety outcomes across the sub-region.
Speaking at the event, Ogun State Sector Commander, Corps Commander Oludare Ogunjobi, stressed the importance of synergy among government agencies, transport unions, and emergency response stakeholders in promoting safer roads.
He urged all relevant institutions to renew their commitment to road safety initiatives and deepen cooperation aimed at creating a safer motoring environment in Ogun State and across the country.
A keynote lecture delivered by retired Assistant Corps Marshal (ACM) Rotimi Adeleye, represented by retired Corps Commander I.O. Martins, identified community participation and strict policy enforcement as key drivers for achieving the objectives of the African Road Safety Charter.
According to the lecture, empowering community-based road safety responders and ensuring rigorous enforcement of transport safety regulations remain critical to reducing traffic crashes and improving compliance among road users.
The commemoration attracted representatives from several security, transport, and emergency management agencies, including the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Nigeria Police Force (NPF), Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE), So-Safe Corps, and the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA).
Transport unions and associations such as ACCOMORAN, the Road Transport Employers’ Association of Nigeria (RTEAN), and the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) also participated in the event.
In his closing remarks, Corps Commander Ogunjobi reiterated the FRSC’s commitment to ensuring safer roads and reminded road users of the importance of responsible driving and adherence to traffic regulations.
The Deputy Sector Commander and Head of Operations, Deputy Corps Commander S.O. Taiwo, delivered the vote of thanks, commending participating agencies and transport unions for their continued support toward achieving safer highways in the state.
