The Nigerian Army has issued a clarification defending the arrest of blogger and social media influencer, Justice Mark Chidiebere, popularly known as “Justice Crack,” over allegations linked to misconduct involving military personnel.
In a statement signed by Colonel Appolonia Anele, Acting Director of Army Public Relations, on May 2, 2026, the Army said its attention was drawn to complaints by some soldiers regarding issues of feeding and welfare, which were shared online by the blogger.
According to the statement, while investigations are ongoing into a possible breach of the Armed Forces’ Social Media Policy and attempts to misinform the public, preliminary findings suggest that the interaction between Chidiebere and the soldiers extended beyond welfare discussions.
The Army alleged that the blogger appeared to be encouraging discontent within the ranks, citing conversations that allegedly bordered on subversive acts. It warned that any attempt by civilians to influence military personnel toward actions capable of undermining discipline and national security poses serious risks.
Consequently, Chidiebere was arrested alongside the soldiers involved for investigation. The Army disclosed that while the soldiers remain in military custody, the blogger has been handed over to appropriate civil authorities for further investigation and possible prosecution.
Reaffirming its commitment to the rule of law, the Nigerian Army stated that it would continue to collaborate with relevant agencies to ensure justice is served while safeguarding the nation’s sovereignty.
