The Inspector-General of Police, Tunji Disu, has approved the immediate dismissal and prosecution of ASP Nuhu Usman over his role in a fatal shooting incident that occurred on April 26, 2026, in Effurun, Delta State.
The incident led to the death of an emerging music artiste, Mene Ogidi.
In a statement issued on Wednesday by Force spokesperson Anthony Placid, all officers linked to the shooting have been withdrawn from the Delta State Command and redeployed to the Force Headquarters in Abuja, where they underwent accelerated disciplinary procedures.
According to the statement, the Force Disciplinary Committee (FDC), alongside other internal mechanisms, completed its investigation and found that ASP Usman acted in clear violation of Force Order 237 and other regulations guiding the use of firearms.
“The findings established unequivocally that the principal officer acted unlawfully and unprofessionally, in gross breach of his duty to protect lives,” the statement noted.
Following the outcome, the FDC recommended the dismissal of ASP Usman and other culpable officers.
The IGP has also approved the recommendation and forwarded it to the Police Service Commission for ratification in line with due process.
The police added that upon conclusion of administrative formalities, the affected officers will be handed over to the appropriate judicial authorities for prosecution over their roles in the extra-judicial killing.
