The Ogun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Monday night adopted Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola as the party’s consensus candidate.
Adeola, who represents Ogun West in the 10th Senate, was adopted during a strategic caucus meeting held at the party’s secretariat on Abiola Way, Abeokuta, the state capital.
The meeting, convened by the state chairman, Chief Yemi Sanusi, was attended by Governor Dapo Abiodun; former governor, Aremo Olusegun Osoba; Senator Gbenga Daniel; Senator Ibikunle Amosun; Senator Kola Bajomo; Senator Shuaib Salisu; Senator Gbenga Kaka; Senator Gbenga Obadara, among other caucus members.
The adoption followed Governor Abiodun’s address, in which he disclosed that he had engaged other aspirants from Ogun West, including Hon. Gboyega Nasir Isiaka and Hon. Abiodun Akinlade, to step down in support of Adeola.
In his acceptance speech, Adeola pledged not to disappoint the state or the party, vowing to sustain Ogun’s trajectory as one of Nigeria’s fastest-growing economies and a leading industrial hub.
“Now is the time to consolidate the sacrifices made by my brothers to ensure this day becomes a reality. I believe in unity and the oneness of our dear state, particularly Ogun West,” he said.
“I understand the vision for this state and how central Ogun is to the Federal Republic of Nigeria, especially in maintaining its status as one of the most industrialised and fastest-growing economies in the country.”
He assured party leaders of his commitment to unity, peace, and progress.
“Your Excellency and respected leaders, I assure you I will not let you down. I will keep the flag flying and maintain the unity, peace, and progress recorded in Ogun State in recent years. I will not derail,” Adeola said.
“I will ensure that the ship I am about to steer remains on course. By the grace of God, I will do my utmost to keep every member of our great party together and uphold our shared vision.”
Adeola further promised inclusive leadership, stressing that the party would remain united regardless of political differences.
“We are one big, indivisible family. From today, I assure you that a new Ogun State is being birthed. Everything necessary will be done to keep us united and move the state to the next level,” he added.
