Amid self-serving interpretations of Senator Solomon Adeola’s (APC, Ogun West) recent appeal urging supporters to exercise caution in erecting billboards and pasting posters, his Chief of Staff and Media Adviser, High Chief Kayode Odunaro, has reaffirmed the senator’s commitment to due process and the rules guiding the race for Ogun State’s governorship.
Some observers had misconstrued the senator’s appeal as a sign of disinterest in the 2027 governorship contest.
Speaking during a phone-in interview on Splash FM 106.7 over the weekend, Odunaro clarified that the senator’s message had two clear objectives: to appreciate the overwhelming support from loyalists who funded billboards and posters, and to urge them to act in line with electoral laws and established political guidelines.
In the interview, anchored by Dele Ayodo, Odunaro dismissed claims that the senator had withdrawn from the race, attributing such interpretations to political opponents unsettled by Adeola’s growing popularity.
“The senator’s intention was to appreciate the love and massive support shown through billboards and posters funded by supporters. At no point did he suggest he was no longer interested in Ogun State affairs or the 2027 race. That misinterpretation is merely the illusion of those threatened by his popularity,” he said.
He added that the senator remains committed to due process, stressing that campaign activities must align with party timelines and electoral laws, which do not yet permit full-scale campaigning. Supporters, he noted, should continue to show solidarity without soliciting votes prematurely.
“If you observe, the billboards and posters were sponsored by various groups impressed by the senator’s performance. As a true progressive, he will not jump the gun by launching campaigns ahead of schedule. At the appropriate time, in line with party guidelines and electoral laws, Senator Adeola will formally declare his ambition. For now, he is consulting widely,” Odunaro explained.
Responding to another question, Odunaro highlighted Adeola’s long-standing support for progressive politics in Ogun State, even during his time in Lagos, dating back to the re-election campaign of former governor Ibikunle Amosun.
He also emphasized the cordial relationship between Adeola and the incumbent governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, noting that both leaders share a common platform in the APC and are committed to advancing the party’s agenda in the state.
“Senator Adeola maintains a strong working relationship with Governor Dapo Abiodun and continues to complement his administration’s efforts. Where there are gaps, he steps in—all in the interest of progressive governance. If the APC succeeds under Governor Abiodun, it is also a success for Senator Adeola,” he said.
Odunaro concluded by reiterating that Adeola, as an experienced progressive politician, will remain guided by party traditions, established rules, and the electoral framework as the 2027 governorship race approaches.
