Senator representing Ogun West Senatorial District, Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, has appealed to his supporters to refrain from engaging in verbal attacks against other aspirants within the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 governorship election in Ogun State.
The Daily Crucible reports that the quartet of Senator Iyabo Obasanjo – Bello(Ogun Central), three – time governorship contestant and serving federal lawmaker, Hon. Gboyega Nasir Isiaka(GNI, Ogun West), ex – deputy Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria(CBN), Tunde Lemo(Ogun Central) and Hon. Isiaq Abiodun Akinlade (Ogun West) have expressed their intentions to contest the 2027 governorship seat of Ogun State under the platform of the ruling All Progressives Congress(APC)..
Also, veteran broadcast journalist and former aide of Governor Dapo Abiodun, Mrs.Modele Sarafa – Yusuf(APC, Ogun East) has declared her interest in the 2027 governorship seat.
Though Senator Adeola, popularly called YAYI and who is also a crowned Aremo of Yewaland has not yet declared any governorship ambition, his political footprints are palpably visible everywhere across the 236 wards and 20 local governments areas of the state.
In a press statement on Monday evening which he personally signed to address growing political conversations on social media regarding 2027, Adeola said his attention had been drawn to recent comments and counter-comments following declarations by some respected citizens of Ogun State to contest the governorship seat in the next general elections.
He expressed concern that some of his supporters, who are eager for him to join the race, had taken to various platforms to make what he described as “detestable statements” against fellow aspirants within the APC.
“For the record, I have not made any official statement regarding any aspirant’s ambition,” the senator clarified, adding that he had also not authorised any member of his staff to respond to what he termed unprovoked media attacks against his person and political career.
Adeola emphasized that he remains focused on his current mandate of serving the people of Ogun West Senatorial District and contributing to national development through his role as Chairman of the Senate Committee on Appropriations. He noted that it is not in his character to demean or ridicule party members for pursuing their legitimate political aspirations.
The lawmaker passionately appealed to his supporters, loyalists, and well-wishers to desist from attacking other aspirants in his name, stressing the need for a rancour-free process as the party prepares for its primaries and the 2027 general elections.
“We are all members of a great political family,” he stated, urging party faithful to eschew bitterness and internal bickering. While appreciating the genuine love and support shown to him, Adeola called for restraint and caution in the days ahead.
Looking ahead, the senator encouraged his supporters to remain focused on promoting the achievements recorded under the leadership of Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, particularly under the Renewed Hope Agenda.
“Our focus should be on continuity of the ongoing reforms of our great party at both the state and national levels, not on unproductive internal bickering,” he said.
Adeola reiterated his commitment to party unity and peaceful engagement as the APC moves closer to its primaries and the 2027 general elections, underscoring the importance of discipline and cohesion within the party ranks.
