Nollywood film producer and actor, Stanley Amandi, has been arrested over alleged coup plot with some Nigerian military officers to topple the government of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu by unconditional means.
Amandi, who is also a director and former chairman of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN), Enugu State chapter, was reportedly taken into custody in September 2025, although details of his alleged involvement only recently emerged.
According to Premium Times report, it was learnt that the actor was recruited by suspected plotters to function as a propagandist, as part of what investigators believe was a broader plan to unlawfully remove the administration of President Tinubu from power.
The Defence Headquarters has since confirmed that investigations into the alleged coup plot have been concluded.
The Defence Headquarters also disclosed that the military, officers implicated in the matter will be subjected to military judicial panels, with the conduct under review described as a breach of the ethics and professional standards of the Armed Forces.
Authorities also disclosed that civilians linked to the case, including Amandi, are expected to face trial in civil courts, while the implicated military personnel will first undergo court-martial proceedings as the prosecution process moves forward.
