Olu of Lisa, Oba Nojeemdeen Oladele Odugbemi, has called on journalists to always be fair, accurate and objective in their daily reportage in the interest of the country.
Oba Odugbemi made the call in his palace while receiving the executive members of both NUJ and NAWOJ in Ogun state who were on a courtesy visit.
The monarch stressed that the media practitioners as officers in the fourth estate of the realm should be truthful and unbias while reporting events that could effect changes in the society.
He described media practitioners as important segment of the country’s population and should be mindful of exercising their constitutional roles in the interest of the nation.
Oba Odugbemi, who is the Grand Patron of both Ogun NUJ and NUJ South West admonished journalists to be constructive in their reportage, situate issues in proper perspectives and always imbibe the culture of developmental journalism and as well obey the tenets of the profession for societal development.
The chairman of Ogun NUJ, Comrade Wale Olanrewaju, represented by the state secretary of Ogun NUJ, Comrade Bunmi Adigun assured the monarch that media will continue to complement the efforts of the government and stakeholders to further aid economic development of the nation.
In another development, Olu of Lisa, Oba Odugbemi appealed to both Ogun state and federal governments to revisit the total construction of Ijoko- Lisa road which has been abandoned for over 19 years after the Bellview crash in Lisa which claimed 117 personalities, including Nigerians and Non Nigerians.
Oba Odugbemi who made the call during a radio interview in Lagos pointed out that the road leading to Lisa from Ijoko is not passable for both human and vehicular movement, adding that it has affected business activities most especially agricultural business in the area.
The monarch therefore urged the government to consider the residents in those areas who are Nigerians and the families of the victims of the Bellview crash who could not visit the arcade any longer by constructing the road for the purpose of improving the well being of the people and as well increase the Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) of government.
