<div dir="auto"></div> <div dir="auto"></div> <div dir="auto">By Ayobami Ife, Abeokuta</div> <div dir="auto"></div> <div dir="auto">The Ogun State Coordinator of National Youth Service Corps(NYSC), Nasamu Olayinka Diana, has declared that the number of youth corps members serving in the state as of Tuesday, January 23 remained intact at 19,970, stressing that no corps member serving in the state was killed.</div> <div dir="auto"></div> <div dir="auto"></div> <div dir="auto">Nasamu said the corpse that was dumped in Ogijo has been discovered to be that of a bricklayer and not a corps member, wondering where people picked the wrong information and started spreading it about without verification from the NYSC authority.</div> <div dir="auto"></div> <div dir="auto"></div> <div dir="auto"><strong>The Daily Crucible</strong> reports that the remains of a man were found in the bush around the Kadesh area of Ogijo, Sagamu, Ogun state on Monday, forcing residents of the area to draw the attention of the police to it. Detectives from the Ogijo Police Divisional Headquarters stormed the scene and upon investigation, the deceased was a bricklayer.</div> <div dir="auto"></div> <div dir="auto"></div> <div dir="auto">However, addressing newsmen in her office at Okelewo area of Abeokuta, the state capital on Tuesday in respect of the corpse and following reports that the corpse was that of a youth corps member serving in the state, Nasamu said the reports was false, explaining that investigations by the police revealed that the deceased was a mason and not a corps member.</div> <div dir="auto"></div> <div dir="auto">She said the NYSC conducted checks among corps members serving across the state through its internal mechanism and discovered that nothing untoward happened to any member.</div> <div dir="auto"></div> <div dir="auto">“The person that they found his corpse in Ogijo bush was not a corps member, he was a bricklayer. You cannot say someone is a corps member without verifying his corps code number, his place of primary assignment and there was nothing identifying him as a corps member.</div> <div dir="auto"></div> <div dir="auto">“We went to the commissioner of police who also confirmed that the deceased was not a corps member.</div> <div dir="auto"></div> <div dir="auto"></div> <div dir="auto">“When a corps member dies and you are writing about it, you have to be precise because they have unique identification numbers, that is their code numbers and that was not in the report.</div> <div dir="auto"></div> <div dir="auto">“I don’t know how the report came about, but the person whose corpse was abandoned was not a corps member, but a bricklayer,” Nasamu insisted</div>
