Over N300Bn for agric, attestation of FG’s resolve to tackle hunger – Senator Adeola
The Senate Committee Chairman for Appropriation, Senator Solomon Adeola has said that the over N300billion earmarked for agriculture out of the approved N28.7trillion 2024 budget is an attestation to the commitment of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu-led Federal Government to boosting food production and end hunger in the country.
Adeola added that the move will also ensure food security, bring about more meaningful development in many segment of the society and lessen the current economic hardship being experienced by Nigerians.
The Senator representing Ogun West Senatorial District made this known on Wednesday evening in Ilaro, the Headquarters of Yewa South Local Government Area of Ogun State while speaking with reporters at the sideline of a party he organised to mark the New Year celebration with his constituents and supporters across the state.
During the celebration which had in attendance, the First Lady, Mrs Bamidele Abiodun, Minister of State for Environment, Dr. Isiaq Kunle Salako, Special Duties Commissioner, Mrs Funmilayo Efuwape, Reps member; Hon. Afolabi Afuape, Hon. Adekunle Adeyemi, the All Progressives Congress (APC) chairman in Ogun State, Chief Yemi Sanusi among others, Adeola lauded governor Dapo Abiodun for inclusive style of leadership, describing him as his “role model, mentor and leader.”
“As you can see, the president has signed the appropriation bill into law , we now have a N28.7trillion appropriation bill and out of which Agricultural alone is taking over N300billion.
“What that simply means is that the government of the day is determined to end hunger in the country and will be doing so much in the area of food production .
“President Tinubu has even, in a way by proxy, supported school feeding in our various schools across the country, and in doing that, local production of food in the country is ensured.
“Also in ending hunger in the land, we (the lawmakers) have done so much in the appropriation act that was just recently signed by Mr President to ensure food security in Nigeria,” he said.
On the new year celebration party, he said it was one of the only ways to express appreciation to his supporters and bring them together, thanking God for giving them all the opportunity to witness another year.
He promised that Ogun West Senatorial district would witness a representation that would many folds outweigh whatever development it had seen in the past.
“We have started a lot of developmental projects across the length and breath of the senatorial districts and also engaged in activities that will assist, financially, the good people of Ogun West Senatorial District.” he said
