Senator Solomon Adeola has commenced the re-electrification of more than 50 communities across Ogun Waterside and parts of Ogun East Senatorial District, fulfilling a pledge he made to restore electricity to areas that have remained without power for over a decade.
The lawmaker, who is also the All Progressives (APC) governorship candidate for the 2027 Ogun State governorship election, has released funds to contractors to begin work on the project, which is being financed from his personal resources.
Adeola said that contractors had already been mobilised following the disbursement of funds for the project.
The re-electrification exercise would cover communities in Ogun Waterside Local Government Area, including Onikintimbo, Gbegude, Olorunsogo, Malofe, Itebu-Manuwa, Mile 3 and Mile 4, Igede, Oni, Alo, Olojumeta, Ibiade, Agodo, Tigara, Igbafo, Ilushin, Camps, Agbure, Efire, Lomiro, Obu, Ayede, Abigi, Ayila, Ita Ogun, Ita Otu, Makun Omi, Igbo Edu, Ode Omi and Awodikora.
The project also extends to communities in Ijebu East Local Government Area, including J3 Junction, Mafowoku, Trianger, Fowoseje, Fotedo, Itapanpa, Denurin, Malara, Terelu, Toliwo, Uba, Ebute Imobi, Oki Igbode, Itasin, Araromi, Togunselu and Orita J4.
Speaking on the initiative, Adeola said he was moved to act after discovering that many of the affected communities had enjoyed electricity in the past but had been plunged into darkness following the vandalisation of power infrastructure.
“I was disturbed to learn that a vast area of my state has been thrown into darkness for over a decade with all the negative implications for socio-economic development and standard of living. It is not everything that we leave for government with limited resources at all levels to do. So, I made a pledge to re-electrify these communities,” he said.
During a meeting with the project’s lead contractor and the member representing Ogun Waterside State Constituency, Hon. Lawal Samusideen Adekunle, the senator urged the contractor to ensure speedy completion of the work, expressing optimism that electricity would soon be restored to the affected communities.
Meanwhile, the Ogun Waterside Patriotic Forum has commended the intervention, describing it as a life-changing initiative for residents.
In a letter dated June 20, 2026, jointly signed by the Ojutumoro of Abigi and Chairman of the Ogun Waterside Council of Obas, Oba Olusegun Ogunye; former House of Representatives member, Hon. Abiodun Abudu Balogun; former Commissioner for Education and former Vice-Chancellor of Tai Solarin University of Education, Prof. Segun Awonusi; Ogun Waterside Local Government Chairman, Hon. Adetoye Odunoiki; and Engr. Afolabi Ganiyu, the forum expressed appreciation for the intervention.
In a statement signed by Senator Adeola’s Media Adviser, Chief Kayode Odunaro, the forum said the restoration of electricity would revive economic activities, improve learning conditions for students, and enhance the overall quality of life in the affected communities.
“Upon completion and delivery, students can read at night, artisans can return to work, cold rooms will be functioning again and our communities will bounce back to life. This is more than electricity; it is restoration of dignity and economic life,” the letter stated.
