Two Nigerians, Sunday Okorie and Januarius Ezeike, have been arrested in Houston, Texas, alongside another man during a police operation targeting suspected prostitution-related offences.
The arrests followed a proactive operation conducted by the Houston Police Department’s (HPD) Vice Division in Southwest Houston on September 28, 2026.
According to the police, the operation resulted in the arrest of three individuals who were charged with felony prostitution as buyers.
HPD announced the arrests on October 2, saying its Vice Division had carried out the operation in response to suspected prostitution activity in the area.
The two Nigerians were reportedly arrested on allegations of soliciting prostitution, an offence prosecuted under Section 43.021 of the Texas Penal Code.
Under the law, a person commits an offence if they knowingly offer or agree to pay a fee to another person in exchange for engaging in sexual conduct.
The penalties depend on whether it is a first or subsequent offence. A first offence is classified as a state jail felony and can attract between 180 days and two years in a state jail facility, as well as a fine of up to $10,000.
A subsequent offence can carry a more severe punishment, including two to 10 years in prison and a fine of up to $10,000.
Okerie and Ezeikwe could therefore face significant prison terms and financial penalties if convicted, with the potential sentence depending on the specific charges and their applicable offence classifications.
The arrests are allegations, and the two men are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
