Indian police have arrested two Nigerians – Obiwuru and Jonathan, for allegedly defrauding a female doctor of over N6m while presenting themselves as love spell casters.
Indian Express reports that the two Nigerians identified as Okwuchukwu, 41, and Obiwuru Jonathan Uzaka, 35, posed as love spell casters and allegedly defrauded a female Indian doctor of N6.6 million (Rs 12.45 lakh) in the process.
The two, it was learnt, coned the lady into believing they could provide solutions to her romantic challenges.
The two suspects were said to be residents of Uttam Nagar in Delhi and allegedly perpetrated the scam in collaboration with two others at large.
The two at large – Michala Ajunda and Daniel, according to the report in the Indian express, have been declared wanted by the police.
The victim who was passing through trying times in her love life, met the Nigerians on the internet after she had combed many sites for “love spell caster.”
The lady, an ophthalmologist, told the police that when she contacted the accused, they informed her that they were “love spell casters” from Uganda and can conduct prayers that will solve her love issues.
The police statement reads, “The complainant who was seeking a solution to her love life problems and professional success had searched online for “love spell caster” and got the phone number of the scammers.
“Based on her complaint, the police lodged a case and collected technical evidence. A special team led by Inspector J Narender Goud rushed to Delhi, arrested the accused and brought them to Hyderabad on transit remand.
“The accused have been remanded in judicial custody,” the statement added.
Police claim that the four accused came from Nigeria to India for a cloth business, but devised a plan to cheat gullible citizens to make money after they suffered loses in their business.
The accused persons also opened bank accounts through brokers and posted advertisements on social media platforms and Google along with their phone numbers offering services in astrology, love spell cast, and solutions for life’s problems,” the police added.
