Troops of the 4 Brigade Nigerian Army, operating under Operation WABAIZIGAN, have arrested a suspected kidnapper and recovered an AK-47 rifle and ammunition during a targeted operation along the Benin–Sapele Road in Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area of Edo State.
The suspect, identified as Olamide Oyeniyi, was arrested on September 12, 2026, at Obaretin Community while troops were conducting operations aimed at disrupting criminal activities and securing major transportation corridors in the area.
According to the Nigerian Army, troops recovered one AK-47 rifle, one magazine and eight rounds of 7.62mm Special ammunition from the suspect.
Other items recovered included a Tecno mobile phone, two bags, a torchlight, a music box and assorted charms.
The Army said the suspect and the recovered items are currently in military custody as investigations continue.
Authorities are also working to determine Oyeniyi’s alleged links with other criminal elements and establish whether he was involved in kidnapping or other criminal activities along the Benin–Sapele corridor.
The Nigerian Army said it would sustain operations aimed at denying criminal elements freedom of action while protecting communities, commuters and critical transportation routes across Edo State.
The military also pledged continued collaboration with other security agencies as part of efforts to strengthen security and maintain peace in the state.
