Ahead of 2027, the people of Ogun West Senatorial District, especially members of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from the zone, have expressed profound sadness over the unguarded outbursts of the Deputy Governorship candidate of PDP in the last governorship election in Ogun State, Hon. Abdulkabir Adekunle Akinlade, against his benefactor and the Governorship candidate, Hon. Ladi Adebutu.
Akinlade, a former federal lawmaker, was reported to have said among other things that God spared the Gateway State of monumental “Calamity” by not allowing Adebutu to win the 2023 governorship election.
The Agosasa born politician, who was also the governorship candidate of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) in 2019 with the full backing of the then Governor Ibikunle Amosun, had while addressing the press on Saturday equally said: “In fact, Ladi is a 2-year-old child in a 62 year-old man’s body. I guess this explains why he acts on impulse like a child without caring about the consequences of his actions. In his delusion of self-grandeur, he lies effortlessly, sheds tears at will and induces self-pity.
“Come to think of it, why does his almost 90-year-old father still give him weekly feeding allowance? At first, I thought that it was the old man’s way of expressing his affection, but as I observed them closely, it became clear that even the old man knows that his 62-year old man- child lacks the capacity and ability to manage a monthly or annual handout.”
And in his address tagged “Divine Power of Prayers That Averts Calamity,” Akinlade told newsmen that he began to take a second look at Adebutu’s mindset, because the PDP 2023 flag bearer announced his intention to re-contest for governorship seat come 2027 hours after the Supreme Court dismissed his case against Governor Dapo Abiodun.
“I sincerely draw these conclusions on his state of mind, because no rational thinking adult at age 62 will contemplate to aspire for the same office that his kinsman and brother, H.E Prince Dapo Abiodun, who is from the same compound, town, ward, local government and senatorial district, serving his second term of 4 years in office which ends in 2027. A man that lacks character, lacks honour,” Akinlade reportedly said.
But in a swift reaction, the Ogun West PDP members and leaders, who were palpably appalled by the level of vituperations against Adebutu by Akinlade also popularly called Triple A, said they are not ignorant of what they termed, “Akinlade’s legendary penchant for treachery and backstabbing,” alleging that he did similar thing to his “elder brother from his homestead, Otunba Akeem Adigun, the popular Ogun West successful business mogul who gave his all in bringing him to political limelight.”

High (Chief) Ganiu Dada Obanibasiri and 20 other signatories in a statement on behalf of the zone, also recalled that Akinlade allegedly betrayed his former boss and ex-governor Ibikunle Amosun, urging the general public not to view “the entire Ogun West political space from the treacherous prism of an Akinlade (akaTriple A).”
The statement read in full: “With heavy stroke of pain, the needless vituperations of Hon Abdulkabir Adekunle Akinlade, the deputy governorship candidate of our great party, the PDP in the last circle of general election in Ogun state, caught the attention of the ogun West PDP Leaders Forum. As such, PDP leaders in ogun West, where Triple A hails from, have a duty to address such ungentlemanly cries of an overgrown infant as displayed by Akinlade.
“Foremost, it is on good record that it was the governorship candidate of our party Hon. (Dr) Oladipupo Olatunde Adebutu that singlehandedly brought in Akinlade, even when he was NEVER a member of party, PDP as recent as 2022 and because of our irrevocable trust in his leadership, all interests were collapsed in order to accommodate and integrate him and very few followers to the party’s mainstream, especially in Ogun West.
“Before we proceed further, Akinlade can not claim to have 50 followers in any of the 5 local government areas of Ogun West who contributed financially to the truncated success of our party even as the Deputy Governorship candidate. Just as we do not know or see ANY of Akinlade’s financial contribution to Ogun West before, during and after the elections other than his empty grandstanding and relying on the financial fortune of the Adebutu in prosecuting the last election.
“Beyond words, the leadership of our party in Ogun West is not unaware of Akinlade’s legendary penchant for treachery and backstabbing. We know what he did to his elder brother from his homestead, Otunba Akeem Adigun, the popular Ogun West successful business mogul who gave his all in bringing him to political limelight. Today, the entire country is well aware of how he betrayed his former boss and former governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun and how their relationship hit the rock.
“Just as we were hoping that Akinlade has resumed work on his needed self-rehabilitation when he joined the ladi Adebutu political family in 2022, the ugly side dwelling in the mind, spirit and soul of this politician reared its ugly head just a few days in Jan 2024 after the final judicial pronouncement on the Ogun state governorship election.
“For the party leaders in Ogun West, maybe we should begin to thank God for not making him the deputy governor in 2023, who knows what would have happened to Ladi Adebutu by now? It is really sad that one of us, an Ogun West indigen can not grow beyond open hatred, bile, and unguided envy for someone, who, out of trust, sense of friendship and obvious pity, extended his hands to him for good. Indeed, every disappointment is a blessing in disguise!
Indeed, Adekunle Akinlade, by his open utterances to his Governorship candidate and benefactor, Ladi Adebutu, has demonstrated an unimaginable degree of serial disloyalty, ingratitude and ineptitude. What a man!
“However, we want to register it in the mind of the general public that the entire Ogun West political space should not be viewed from the treacherous prism of an Akinlade (akaTriple A). His antics do not define us in any way. He is just a pathetic exception to our collective values, standards, and shared ethos in Yewa and Awori land.
“With his cries as contained in his weekend litany of bile, it is crystal clear that Akinlade has exhausted, so early in his dubious double-faced life, all his political stamina. He has developed and nurtured a terrible reputation for his inability to be trustworthy right from his hometown, Agosasa. He has defined what it means to be undependable to Sen. Amosun. He just displayed the height of disloyalty to the Adebutus. Greed, inordinate ambition, devilish lust, and dishonesty have come together to take an ill-mannered and disloyal politician round the globe.
“Therefore, let useful lessons be learnt by whoever that seeks to cultivate any political understanding or indulge in any form of political transaction or engagement with him to know what to expect tomorrow.
“We also want to make it abundantly clear to the leader of our Party, the PDP, Hon. (Dr) Oladipupo Olatunde Adebutu and of course, our political allies in Ogun East and Ogun Central Senatorial Districts that the known betraying Judas from Ogun West can not and will not diminish the quality of our hard-earned political relationship and mutually beneficial friendship that we all have enjoyed ever before he joined us. We are eternally committed to everything that binds us together. Ogun West PDP Leaders Forum remains unwavering in its belief in the aspiration of ladi Adebutu and the well-being of our great party.
“We therefore choose to encourage our loyal members, priceless supporters and leaders across the state, and Indeed, our darling leader to remain focused as Adekunle Akinlade and his childishness are insignificant irritations that can not stand the test of time.”
