President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the posting of 65 ambassadors to various countries and international missions across the world.
The announcement was contained in a statement issued on Friday by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, who disclosed that the list comprises 31 career diplomats and 34 non-career ambassadors.
According to the statement, the ambassadors’ nominations had earlier been confirmed by the Nigerian Senate in December.
Among the notable appointments, former senator Ita Enang has been posted to South Africa, while former Abia State governor Okezie Ikpeazu will serve as Nigeria’s ambassador to Spain.
Former presidential aide Reno Omokri has been assigned to Mexico, while former Chief of Defence Intelligence Lateef Kayode Are will head Nigeria’s mission to the United States.
The President also appointed former Minister of Health Isaac Folorunso Adewole as ambassador to Canada.
Similarly, former Minister of Interior Abdulrahman Bello Dambazau has been posted to China as Nigeria’s representative.
Businessman and politician Jimoh Ibrahim was named Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations.
The statement added that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has already secured agrément from the United Kingdom for High Commissioner-designate Aminu Dalhatu.
It also confirmed that the France has granted approval for Ayo Oke to serve as Nigeria’s ambassador.
According to the presidency, the ministry has forwarded the nominations of the remaining envoys to their respective host countries for diplomatic consent, in line with international protocol.
President Tinubu also directed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to immediately commence the induction programme for the ambassadors-designate and high commissioners ahead of their deployment.
