The Nigeria Police Force High Command has placed all its formations nationwide on red alert following intelligence indicating plans by terrorist elements to launch coordinated attacks on worship centres, schools, National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) orientation camps and other vulnerable public places.
According to a report by Premium Times, the police also received intelligence on the movement of armed elements from Katsina through Kaduna towards Plateau State.
The development followed fresh intelligence indicating increased mobilisation of terrorist elements for possible coordinated attacks across the country.
In response, the Force Headquarters has directed its formations nationwide to intensify surveillance, strengthen security around vulnerable locations and prevent the suspected criminal elements from carrying out the planned attacks.
The directive was contained in a police wireless message dated September 13, 2026, obtained by The Nigerian Tribune.
The message, with reference number CB: 0900/FDPS/DOPS/FHQ/ABJ/VOL38/68, was issued by the Department of Operations, Nigeria Police Force, Abuja.
Marked “Security General” and tagged “Treat as Very Important,” the message was circulated to Assistant Inspectors-General of Police overseeing Zones 1 to 17, Mobile Police formations, counter-terrorism units and other specialised formations.
Commissioners of Police in all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory were also directed to act on the intelligence.
The police said available intelligence pointed to increased mobilisation of terrorist elements for possible coordinated attacks on places of worship, educational institutions, NYSC orientation camps and other vulnerable locations.
The directive is expected to prompt heightened security measures and increased vigilance around critical public facilities nationwide.
The Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Ani Iniedu, had yet to issue any public statement concerning the alleged planned coordinated attacks across the country.
