Barely a year after the Ogun State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), led by Comrade Adewale Olanrewaju, inaugurated the Ogun-East Independent Chapel in Ijebu-Ode, the Chapel on Tuesday, August 26, witnessed the swearing-in of a new set of Executives.
Comrade Oluseun Oduneye of The Issues Magazine emerged as Chairman, while Comrade Charles Adegbite of Successful People Magazine was sworn in as Vice Chairman. Others include Comrade Oluwafunmilayo Suleodu Adewoju as Secretary, Comrade Dairo Johnson of BoldNews as Treasurer, and Comrade Ademola Ogunlana of Ogun Speaks Magazine as Assistant Secretary.
The inauguration ceremony, held at the NUJ Press Centre in Abeokuta was well attended by Union members at both the state and chapel levels, with several chapel chairmen present to welcome the new leadership.
In his address, Ogun NUJ Chairman, Comrade Olanrewaju, charged the new executives to be focused and dedicated to the progress of the union, particularly within Ogun East Senatorial District. He urged them to tackle the menace of quack journalism and the growing spread of fake news.
“I want to congratulate the new executive members once again. The formation of Ogun-East Independent Chapel was once a dream, born out of a vision to give members in the region a stronger sense of belonging and reduce the stress of always coming to Abeokuta, except during congresses.
Another challenge before you is the issue of fake news, which has become rampant in our society. You must work together within your jurisdiction to ensure that the activities of quack journalists are curtailed,” he said.
In his remarks, the newly sworn-in Chairman, Comrade Oluseun Oduneye, appreciated the council for its support and recognition of the chapel. He assured members of his commitment to fostering unity and driving the union’s goals in the region.
Also speaking at the gathering, the Secretary, Comrade Funmilayo Suleodu Adewoju, thanked the state council for establishing the chapel at a crucial time, noting that the new team is ready to uphold the NUJ constitution and move the chapel forward.
