A 49 year old man, Ganiyu Shina of Oguji street, Obantoko Abeokuta, has been arrested on Thursday for bathing by a community river bank in a substance suspected to be blood.
Residents of kotopo community of Odeda local government area of Ogun State sighted the suspect having his bathe at the river bank, they arrested him and alerted the police.
The suspect was said to have parked
his Nissan commercial vehicle by roadside, came out with a local sponge and container filled with blood and started to bath with it.
However, when the suspect discovered that some curious people were watching the strange happening, he took to his heels, but was chased and apprehended by members of the community.
Police spokesperson in the state, Abimbola Oyeyemi, who confirmed this said the community contacted Aregbe divisional headquarters and the Divisional Police Officer, Bunmi Asogbon, who led a patrol team to the scene and brought the suspect to the station.
“The suspect claimed to have a spiritual problem, and that a herbalist instructed him to perform the ritual. He claimed further that the blood in his possession is not human blood, but that of cow,” Oyeyemi said.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Lanre Bankole, had directed that the remaining sample of blood should be taken for laboratory analysis, to ascertain whether it is human blood.
Bankole, according to Oyeyemi, praised members of the community for not taken laws into their hands and assured them that the suspect will be properly investigated.
