The Ogun State Police Command has arrested a principal suspect in the murder of a 61-year-old retired teacher, Mrs Adedotun Adeteju Oluwaseun, who was found dead in her residence in Agbaakin Emere, Bode-Olude, Abeokuta, in February 2026.
The police disclosed this in a press release issued on Friday, October 23, 2026, by the Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi B. Babas eyi, stating that sustained investigations by detectives led to the arrest of the suspect, Alhaji Saburi Lateef Ayinde, popularly known as “OKI-OCEAN”, on October 19, 2026.
According to the police, the deceased’s body was discovered in the toilet of her residence on February 28, a day after she reportedly returned from a retirement celebration organised by her colleagues.
Preliminary investigations indicated that she was allegedly strangled and attacked with a machete during an altercation with the suspect.
The police said the suspect reportedly confessed to the killing, linking the incident to financial dealings between him and the deceased.
He allegedly claimed that he had entrusted ₦3.45 million to the retired teacher for safekeeping, with an understanding that she would lend him ₦1.5 million to purchase another vehicle.
However, detectives are working to corroborate the suspect’s account and establish the full circumstances surrounding the killing.
The case was transferred to the Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Eleweran, Abeokuta, for further investigation before the suspect’s arrest.
The Commissioner of Police in Ogun State, CP Bode Ojajuni, commended the investigating officers for their persistence, professionalism and commitment, which he said led to the breakthrough.
Ojajuni reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to investigating serious crimes, ensuring accountability and bringing suspects to justice through lawful prosecution.
The police added that the suspect would be charged to court after the conclusion of the investigation.
The Command also urged residents to resolve disputes through lawful means and report criminal activities promptly, assuring the public that credible information would be treated professionally.
