The Oyo State Police Command has arrested 10 suspected merchants of human parts and recovered suspected human organs and charms during coordinated raids in the Iseyin and Saki areas of the state.
The arrests followed months of intelligence gathering and surveillance by operatives of the command’s monitoring unit.
In a statement issued to journalists on Saturday, the command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Olayinka Ayanlade, said the suspects were picked up at separate hideouts after weeks of discreet tracking.
According to him, police searched the locations and recovered several items suspected to be human remains, including one suspected human heart, human flesh and pieces of a human skull, alongside assorted charms.
“The recovered exhibits have been secured for forensic examination and further investigation, while the suspects are assisting investigators in determining the source, procurement and intended use of the items,” Ayanlade said.
He added that efforts were ongoing to identify and apprehend other members of the alleged syndicate.
The Commissioner of Police in Oyo State, Abimbola Olugbenga, assured residents that the command remained committed to tackling criminal activities in the state and protecting human life.
Police said the suspects will be charged to court at the conclusion of investigations.
