Veteran Nigerian actor and film executive Oludotun Baiyewu Jacobs, popularly known as Olu Jacobs, has died at the age of 84.
The celebrated actor’s death was announced on Wednesday by his son, Olusoji Jacobs, in a statement shared on Instagram.
The family described Olu Jacobs as “The Lion of Lufodo,” a reference to his longstanding influence in Nigeria’s film and theatre industry.
In announcing his passing, the family expressed gratitude for his life and asked the public, particularly bloggers and social media influencers, to respect their privacy during the period of mourning.
“It is with gratitude to God for a life well lived and fought, that we announce the passing of our dear husband, father, grandfather and uncle. The Lion of Lufodo,” the statement read.
Olu Jacobs was widely regarded as one of Nigeria’s most respected actors, with a career spanning theatre, television and film.
His work over several decades earned him recognition both in Nigeria and internationally, while his contributions to the growth of the country’s entertainment industry cemented his place among its most prominent figures.
The family has not disclosed further details surrounding his death.
