The Ogun State Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, has summoned four police officers captured in a viral video allegedly assaulting a young man in Ijagba, Sango-Ota, to the command headquarters in Eleweran, Abeokuta, for further action.
The development was disclosed on Sunday by the spokesperson for the Ogun State Police Command, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, who said the officers involved had been identified and that immediate steps had been initiated in line with established procedures.
The incident sparked widespread outrage on social media after a video emerged showing about three police officers pinning a young man to the ground before handcuffing him.
The footage attracted criticism from members of the public, many of whom condemned the officers’ actions and questioned the manner in which the young man was restrained.
A voice heard in the video alleged that the young man was arrested for wearing camouflage knickers, raising concerns about the circumstances surrounding the arrest and the level of force allegedly used by the officers.
Reacting to the public outcry, Babaseyi said the Commissioner of Police had ordered immediate action following the identification of the officers involved in the incident.
According to the police spokesperson, the four officers had been directed to report to the command headquarters in Eleweran, Abeokuta, as part of the process initiated by the command.
Babaseyi reiterated the command’s commitment to accountability, professional discipline and maintaining the highest standards of policing.
He added that further information on the matter would be made available as developments unfold.
