…As Governor, Deputy Get Certificates Of Return From INEC
Ogun State Council of Nigeria Union of Journalists(NUJ) has advised governor Dapo Abiodun to extend hands of fellowship to other contestants in the last March 18 governorship election in the state but were not successful.
No fewer than a dozen of registered political parties and their candidates participated in the epic race to the Okemosan Governor’s Office including Dapo Abiodun’s main challengers, Hon. Oladipupo Adebutu of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and Senator Ibikunle Amosun – backed insurance guru and candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Barr. Biyi Otegbeye.
Abiodun of the All Progressives Congress (APC) won his re-election with 276,298 votes to defeat his closest rival and PDP’s Hon. Adebutu, who scored 262,383 votes while ADC’s Otegbeye polled 94,754 votes.
There are 2,688,305 registered voters in Ogun as of March 18, 2023 while a total
666,506 people were accredited to vote on that day.
Also, total valid votes cast were put at 645,133, void votes totalled 18,835 and 663,968 was recorded as total votes cast.
Vice Chancellor of the University of Ibadan, Prof. Kayode Oyebode Adebowale, who served as the Returning Officer for Ogun State governorship election, said the incumbent governor satisfied the requirements of the law in respect of the poll and hereby declared him the Governor – elect.
However, speaking at the end of the Ogun NUJ Congress held at the Council’s Secretariat (Iwe Iroyin) Okelewo, on Thursday evening, the state chairman, Com. Wale Olanrewaju on behalf of the Union congratulated the governor on his victory and urged him to extend hands friendship and fellowship to his co- contestants.
Olanrewaju also advised the Governor not to take his victory for granted, even as he reminded him that the successful re – election is an attestation of the desirousness of the electorate to have him manage the affais of Ogun State for another term of four years.
While praying for a successful second tenure for the Governor, the number One Journalist in the Gateway State urged him to concentrate on how to make Ogun State better for the indigenes and residents.
Olanrewaju equally commended Gov Abiodun for the laudable steps taken by him to reconnect with the practicing journalists in the state after almost four years of avoidable total disconnection.
