The Ogun State House of Assembly(OGHA) has spread its net wider in the investigation into the alleged fraudulent lease of local government land to various individuals in Ewekoro local government with the summoning of the Olu of Itori, Oba Abdulfatai Akamo to appear before it.
Oba Akamo is expected to furnish the OGHA with all he knows about the lease that turned awry.
The Daily Crucible reports that OGHA had earlier summoned a federal lawmaker representing Ifo-Ewekoro Federal Constituency, Hon. Ibrahim Isiaka, who was said to be one of the beneficiaries of what was reckoned by someone as ‘land lease bazaar in Ewekoro.’
Hon. Isiaka was supposed to appear before the committee on Tuesday(yesterday) but failed to do so.
He was said to be on medical vacation out of the country.
However, the monarch, who was also alleged to at various times leased some of the local government land at ridiculous fees was summoned to appear before the Assembly’s next hearing.
OGHA is probing allegations of fraud levelled against the immediate past chairman of the local government, Hon. Isiaka Adesina for leasing government land to some politicians and individuals for 99 years without following the due process.
The Assembly’s Committee on Public Accounts and Anti-corruption, chaired by Hon. Bello Oluwadamilare having heard different presentations from past chairmen, stakeholders and surveyor of the local government, summoned the monarch and others to appear before it, as their names became a recurring factor in the matter.
The immediate past chairman who had initially put up a defence at the hearing fingered other past chairmen of laying the precedent of leasing or selling off the council’s properties, a situation he felt was normal.
Adesina told the committee that those property leased to Hon. Isiaka were done under three different applications, but all originated from the same federal lawmaker.
